Everyone deserves to be included.

As Hangar2, a 501c non-profit organization, we are working in concert with the Seattle Parks and Recreation Department to restore this historic hangar into 140,000-square-feet of barrier free, indoor, year-round, positive activities where everyone will be welcome and included.

Hangar2 has been conceived as a safe, fun, indoor neighborhood where children from all socio-economic backgrounds can come together to engage in athletics, arts, technology and social activities. Here, kids will enjoy equal access to individual and group activities that nurture the development of soft skills and life-long friendships, that are critical to a successful life journey.

Hangar2 is based on the knowledge that a child’s consistent participation in extra-curricular activities produces proven, positive outcomes:

  • Higher educational success and aspirations

  • Greater self-esteem and resilience

  • More civic engagement

  • Higher wages and job attainment

  • Adoption of soft skills, such as strong work habits, self-discipline, teamwork and leadership.

Our Promise

Hangar2 promises to close the opportunity gap that exists for children from underserved and marginalized communities who lack equal access to the privileges afforded by extra-curricular involvement. Hangar2 will level the playing field, welcoming and serving kids from the wide range of socio-economic, gender, ethnic and racial backgrounds.

The timing around Hangar2 is consistent with what many experts say could be an ironic result stemming from the carnage of COVID-19: the commitment to create a new era of sustainable activities that are closely aligned to the needs of communities.
